The starter skills are all the skills you get in pre-searing.

So do u think I will be able to get secondary skills I missed out for free if I switch to another profession and switch back? Somehow I missed out on the lightning skills for my elementalist secondary.
Did the quest with someone else while I hadn't yet selected elementalist secondary and forgot to do it again after I selected...was in too much of a hurry to leave pre-searing :/

You've misunderstood. The skills you get for swithching are the skills you'd start off with in pre-searing when taking a secondary. You do not get skills from pre-searing that were from quests.
Also, if you change back, you keep all skills learnt already.

Ahh ic, so that means if I wanted the lightning skills I missed, I'd still have to buy them...ok thanks.

Not necessarily. You might get a few of them through the switch. For example, I have a N/Me that I switched to something else and then back. Upon switching back, I got Empathy, which I somehow missed in Pre-Searing. I'd say try it, cause you might get something and there's no harm in it.

Interesting, empathy is actually a starter skill given to primary mesmers so that's why you didn't get it in pre-searing cuz mesmer is your secondary profession, but yeah I am going to try it, though honestly I truly have no need for those missed skills.
Since pre-searing is no longer accessible after the searing, I should have thought Anet would make available all skills obtainable from pre-searing, not just the so-called starter skills...this is to encourage switching secondaries, which seems to be what they are trying to do.

Im a W/M and i have just recently switch my secondary to W/R, but after i finish the quest and switch i can't find any other quest that will help me get some rangers skill, so whats the point? I don't want to keep buying them and losing attribute points. Am I missing something?

What ranger skills did u get after switching?
When exactly did you switch. The patch to make available all starter skills went in not long ago.

You can only do quests specific to your new secondary, so yeah, the only way to get more skills is to level up, get fame and buy the new skills.

You need to first ascend, after that go to the 3 desert towns, Destiny Gorge, Seeker's Passage and Hero's Audience and do the respective quests there to switch.

Ok I switched to Mesmer and then back to Elem and the only extra skill I got was Flare. I did not get the lightning skills(Blinding Flash etc) I was hoping I'd get.

hmm... you may have to actually buy some of the left out skills in Ascalon City, as sometimes you won't get ALL prologue skills

Yeah, you only get the initial starter skills. Those are the first 4 that you get and, if memory serves, you get them all from the same quest. The extra skill that you didn't have is usually given only to primaries of whatever profession, so this is a good way to skip out on using a skill point.
